The Astronomical Society of Dharmaraja College is set to host SAGITTARIUS 2026, a prestigious All Island Inter-school Astronomical Quiz Competition and Workshop. This marks the third iteration of the program, continuing a legacy that began in 2014 and followed by a successful second edition in 2019. Known for its rigorous academic standards, the competition has historically seen fierce rivalry, with Nalanda College, Colombo, remarkably securing the championship title in both previous years.
The grand finale reached its peak during the Awarding Ceremony held on March 30, 2026. The event was graced by distinguished guests, with Mr. Mahesh Karunarathne, the Vice Principal, serving as the Chief Guest. Joining him as the Guest of Honour and keynote speaker was Miss Chathuri Damayanthi, an accomplished scholar whose presence added significant academic depth to the ceremony, inspiring the young writers and readers in attendance.
The occasion was further elevated by the presence of Dr. J. P. Liyanage, who served as the Chief Guest. An esteemed academic with a Ph.D. from the University of Colombo, Dr. Liyanage currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of Peradeniya. His expertise in the field of physics offered contestants the unique chance to learn from a leading figure in the scientific community, encouraging them to explore the mysteries of the universe.
