Primary Section

The Primary Section of Dharmaraja College, Kandy has been functioned at NathaDevala premises since 1887 to 1993. The classes from grade 1 – 5 were conducted in the Sinhala medium there.

Even now after establishing the primary section at the new premises grade 1 – 5 classes are conducted in Sinhala medium. The relevant subjects learned at the primary section are Sinhala, Mathematics, Buddhism, Environmental Studies, English, Tamil, Handicrafts, Sports and the Aesthetic Subjects.

There are 25 classes with 1279 students. The tutorial staff consist of 42 teachers. The Assistant Principal, Mrs. H.B.N.R. Panamaldeniya is the head of this section where five grade co-ordinators give their co-operation. Mrs. S. Thilakerathne, Mrs. M.Ariyatathne, Mrs. M.K. Wickramanayake, Mrs. T.M. Narankotuwa, are the grade co-ordinators of grade one to fiveclasses respectively.

All the students sit for the grade 5 scholarship examination and there were about 150 students who obtained more than 100 marks at the examination.

  • Scouting:
    • Cubs have involved in activities up to Golden Star.
    • Involvement in religious and social projects.
    • About 400 students of grade 3 - 5 classes take part in them.
    • Conducting workshops and support a selected school in a difficult area once a year.
    • Conducting annual sports meet, Sinhala Day, English Day, Environmental Day successfully.
    • National level awards are won in Chess and Badminton.
