The 15th Asian Physics Olympiad, which was held from 11th to 18th of May 2014, at the premises of National University of Singapore, welcomed 175 contestants from 27 countries. Samurdhi Karunarathna of Dharmaraja College, who took part in this competition as a representative of Sri Lanka, was able to include himself to the 44 contestants who got qualified to the final round with a record that will be carved in Sri Lankan history, he was able to win Sri Lanka's first ever silver medal at an Asian Physics Olympiad, and by doing so, he uplifted Dharmaraja College's fame and reputation to an all time high. He faced G.C.E. A/L Examination from the maths stream in the year 2013, where he was ranked 2nd in the district and 20th in the island. The National University of Singapore granted the triumphant Samurdhi Karunarathna with a full bright scholarship to pursue his studies there.
