The Dharmaraja – Kingswood Cricket Encounter is a cricket match between Dharmaraja College and Kingswood College which had been one of the most talked about events among Cricket fans of the hill Country . It is the cricket match series in the central province, having been played for 105 years and It is also known as the "Battle of the Maroons" in public. The first match was played in 1893, with Dharmaraja College team captained by the great educationist, later Sir Don Baron Jayathilake, who was the principal of Dharmaraja College at that time. Kingswood College team was captained by A.E. Spencer. The first schoolboy Big Match was played in 1899 with J.C. de Mel captaining Dharmaraja College and T.B. Marshall leading the Kingswood College. The day 25th March 2011 was a day to remember , and events to inscribe in gold in the history of Dharmaraja - Kingswood Cricket encounter. This is the first ever school match played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. And it is proud to say that the trophy had been with Dharmaraja for 30 years. Principal of Dharmaraja College Mr. S.M.Keerthirathne, and the Principal of Kingswood College Mr.R. Chandrasekara ,the Old Boys’ Unions of Dharmaraja and Kingswood are presented a plaque in appreciation of the hard work and the decision taken to organize this event at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium for the Big Match. The regional manager of the Commercial Bank ,Kandy, Mr.Ajith Narampanawe was the Chief Guest at the 105th Cricket Encounter between Dharmaraja and Kingswood which is played for T.B.Tennakoon Memorial Challenge Trophy.
